A teenager has been arrested after two men on a small motorcycle carried out five acid attacks in a 90‑minute period in London.

Metropolitan police said the attackers threw corrosive substances in people's faces.

The victims have all been taken to hospital.

A spokesman said one has suffered "life‑changing injuries".

A male teen was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and robbery and is currently being held in custody at an east London police station.

Police have said in a statement that all five incidents are being treated as linked at this time.

London has experienced a spate of acid attacks in recent months.

Two Australian sisters were seriously burnt in April after acid was flung into a nightclub in East London.

Last month, a young woman was celebrating her 21st birthday when a man threw acid through the open window of her car, the woman had "life changing" burns to her face, and her cousin was hospitalised in a coma.
