The World Health Organisation will work with Fiji on improving health security, climate change, non‑communicable diseases and strengthening ageing health systems.
Regional Director of the World Health Organisation, Dr Takeshi Kasai revealed this while he was traditionally welcomed by senior staff members of the Ministry of Health at the Holiday Inn.
While addressing the senior health staff members Dr Kasai pledged his commitment to support Fiji in its efforts to address these priorities which will benefit all Fijians.
Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete in his response, highlighted that the concerns raised were relevant issues in Fiji and one that runs deeply in the hearts of all Fijian after the consecutive tropical cyclones and the latest NCD results for Fiji.
Waqainabete says Fiji is investing in a young Health workforce to build their capacity to World Standards, improve infrastructure to ensure health security for all Fijians.
While meeting with the Attorney General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Dr Kasai applauded Fiji's progress in delivering better health outcomes for its citizens.
During the meeting, the Attorney General also touched on the new public‑private partnership between government and Australian healthcare company, Aspen Medical, to improve the healthcare facilities and services available at the Ba and Lautoka Hospitals and plans to increase the accessibility of general practitioners in rural areas of the country.
Meanwhile during his stay in Fiji Dr Kasai will also be visiting the Pacific Eye Institute, Tamavua Hospital and Fiji Centre for Communicable Disease Control.
