Water Authority of Fiji in partnership with the National Fire Authority will complete the installation of 65 water hydrants in different divisions around the country by the end of this year.
This was revealed by Minister for Local Government Housing and Environment Parveen Bala when Government MP Netani Rika asked him to explain how the government is assisting National Fire Authority in capacity building.
Bala says that the government has given a grant of $200,000 to purchase the water hydrants and these hydrants will be installed in places where there are less or no water hydrants.
He also told the Parliament that the construction of Savusavu, Lami and Nakasi Fire Station will commence in two months’ time.
The government has given a grant of $2.4 million for this project.
The Minister says that the Taveuni Fire Station will be completed by the end of this year.
Opposition MP Anare Vadei then asked Bala to explain how the National Fire Authority is dealing with complexities.
Bala says that the Authority has purchased three fire trucks which have 20 metre ladders to fight the fires in higher buildings.
