Water Authority of Fiji has completed preparatory works for the Rural Water Supply Programme which had an allocation of $27.25 million in the 2017-2018 national budget.
This was confirmed by the CEO of the Water Authority Opetaia Ravai who adds that a lot of these works will have to be out-sourced.
Ravai says there are a total of 179 rural community projects in the 2017-2018 financial year from the usual 50 and 70 in the past years.
A total of 36,648 households will be benefitting from the Rural Water Supply Programme in the 2017-2018 financial year.
Water Authority of Fiji was allocated with a total of $306.9 million in the 2017-2018 national budget comprising of $89.6 million to cover for operating cost and $217.4 million for capital expenditure.
