Minister for Women and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa says they are tired of seeing only women at violence meetings and is urging men to get involved in the fight towards the eradication of gender-based violence.
Vuniwaqa made this comment while launching the “Man Up Fiji’ campaign at the Fiji Museum.
This campaign is designed to promote male advocacy for the elimination of violence against women and children.
Vuniwaqa says that domestic violence in our families and workplaces costs the government billions of dollars per year.
Vuniwaqa adds that 72% of women in Fiji have faced some form of violence in their lifetime and more than 55% of these women have children in their care who witness the abuse.
Vuniwaqa is expecting the participation of at least 50% of men in a march this Saturday which will start at 8.30am from Sukuna Park and go towards Albert Park.
President, Jioji Konrote will officiate at the event.
