Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mere Vuniwaqa says government will not leave behind a home owner in a red zone area whose home was damaged in the cyclone.
While speaking on the Help for Homes after Cyclone Winston in Parliament yesterday, Vuniwaqa says it is important for home owners, advisory councillors and Turaga-ni-Koros to vouch for damage assessments and tell the truth about the extent of damage.
She says the last thing government wants to do is to push for the prosecution of people but they will not hesitate to do that if it is found that people have lied about their loss.
Meanwhile, while speaking Ministry’s initiatives, Vuniwaqa revealed that 22,073 senior citizens including some of those in Ageing Care Homes are currently benefitting from the governments social pension scheme.
They receive a monthly allowance of $50 and the age has been reduced to 66 years from July this year.
She says 53,650 people that include senior citizens aged 60 years and over along with persons living with disabilities are benefitting from the governments bus fare scheme.
Vuniwaqa also highlighted that in the care protection program, there are 3,568 beneficiaries which include children of single mothers, widows, prisoners and those in residential care.
