The Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North aims to collect more than $300,000 this year.
The festival committee spokesperson Vincent Sahayam said they wish to collect enough funds in this year’s festival so they can fund the Labasa Hospital in buying a new heart machine and also build rest rooms along the Labasa and Savusavu highway.
Meanwhile, Miss Friendly North Queen contestant Miss Hasmat Investments Swastika Chand is advocating against child abuse.
Chand said if chosen as Miss Friendly North, she will organize campaigns to create awareness on child abuse for both parents and children.
12 contestants are vying for the Northern crown.
The festival currently underway at Subrail Park ends on Saturday.
