Vocal debates on current global issues began this morning at the 8th session of the Model United Nations at International School Suva.
Seven schools including International School Suva, Marist Brothers High School, Dudley High School, Adi Cakobau School, Yat Sen Secondary, St Joseph’s Secondary and International School Nadi are convening to debate on pressing global issues.
Students from the seven schools will have discussions in the UN councils which they have been appointed to.
These include the Economic and Social Council, the General Assembly, the Security Council, the General Assembly on Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Council and the World Health Organization.
Coordinator Milika Waqainabete said the main objective of Model United Nations is to encourage young student leaders to recognize their role as global citizens.
She said it has been a rewarding experience to witness the program’s growth over the years.
Meanwhile, Adi Cakobau Secondary School student Litia Uluivuda said Model United Nations has encouraged her to form personal resolutions with some of her friends from other schools.
The 8th session of the Model United Nations will finish tomorrow with the councils writing up resolutions.
