Vision Fiji will provide 250 reading books to all Primary Schools from Year 1 to 5 following the approval from the Ministry of Education as part of the school’s curriculum from Term one next year.

Vision Fiji Chair Lynda Tabuya said they have been working on the project “Read to Lead Fiji” for the past five years.

Tabuya said it was a matter of trying to get books that were relevant to the schools where Marijcke Thomson from Scholastic in New York assisted in the designing of the books.

Tabuya said the Ministry of Education has officially approved the books as part of the school curriculum.

Vision Fiji was able to secure $100,000 funding from the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid Programme for the year 2014-2015 for this initiative.

She added that Vision Fiji is also looking at providing these books to Year 6 to 8 in the near future.
