Villagers of Yavusania Village in Nadi today urged the Minister for Waterways and Environment Dr. Mahendra Reddy to take urgent action to address flooding issues.
Yavusania Village is situated near the Nadi River and easily gets flooded during continuous heavy downpours.
Turaga-ni-Koro, Ratu Joe Rokocoko told Reddy that urgent works have to be carried out for Nadi river bank protection as continuous soil erosion in the river is posing a serious threat to their village.
Rokocoko adds that existing drains near the village have collapsed which need repairs and there is also a need to construct new drains.
Dr. Reddy did a site visit this morning and told the villagers of Yavusania that his staff will soon be doing scoping works for the drainage issue while a survey team will be deployed to check as to what can be done for river bank protection.
