Strong winds and heavy rain is now picking up in Ono-i-Lau.
Speaking from Doi village in Ono-i-Lau in the last hour, 61-year-old Eyasi Waqabaca says mothers and children in the village have been evacuated to the schools while other villagers have gathered in houses as they take cover from Cyclone Gita.
In Lakeba, Jekesoni Yaqona a villager in Tubou has confirmed that they are starting to feel strong winds and experience rough seas.
Yaqona says they have closed off all the schools and Post Office in Lakeba and are awaiting further instructions from their village headman.
In Fulaga, Colati Kau from Muana-i-ra confirms that they started their preparations from yesterday.
Kau adds that they have set up their school as an evacuation centre and will help the children and elders to be evacuated.
