Sitiveni Qio Vasuturaga outside court.

41-year-old Sitiveni Qio Vasuturaga today admitted in the Suva High Court that he stabbed his mother-in-law eleven times and his wife two times on 10th August, 2014 at their residence in Namuana village in Kadavu.

Vasuturuga opted to take the stand yesterday.

He is charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

He claimed in court that his wife was having an extra marital affair and his mother-in-law knew about it.

Vasuturuga told the court that he always used to do most of the house work while his mother-in-law would spend most of the time watching television.

Defence lawyer, Samanunu Vaniqi continued asking Vasuturuga about his wife and mother-in-law and what led to this brutal killing.

Vasuturuga then told the court that his mother-in-law often used to tell him that he is good for nothing and also used to swear at him and his ancestors.

It was also revealed in court that Vasuturuga had adopted a girl.

Vasuturaga said that his mother-in-law had also told her daughter to leave him and his daughter behind.

In his final evidence to the court, Vasuturaga mentioned that it was not his intention to kill his wife and mother-in-law but it came about from his mother-in-law.

The defence will call three more witnesses.
