38‑year‑old Aisake Vana Junior who killed his younger brother after an argument over dhal last year took the witness stand today.
The accused cried as he gave evidence.
He said that on the 5th of April last year, the deceased Suliasi Veisere started swearing at him when he woke up and saw him cooking dhal.
He said that he never swore back at his younger brother.
Vana said he told his brother to stop swearing but he continued.
The accused said that Veisere then ran towards him and started punching him.
Vana said his brother threw four punches at him.
He said when they started punching each other in the sitting room, their father woke up and told them to stop.
He told the court that when they stopped fighting, he tried to go outside but his younger brother kept pulling him back inside.
Vana said when he reached the door, his brother tried to pull him back but he resisted and his brother hit the side of the door and fell.
He said after the incident he went to his friend’s place and in the afternoon his sister came and told him that his younger brother passed away.
Vana said that he could not believe it and started crying.
