"Valuing Voices is an innovative arts-in-development project, designed to support human rights advocacy in relation to Fiji's international commitments to media independence focusing on human rights defenders of women and children."
Those were the words of celebrity poet, Daren Kamali who joined around 80 dignitaries, journalists, artists and members of non-government organisations to launch a civil society project called “Valuing Voices” that will be launched in Suva today to mark the World Press Freedom Day.
Kamali told Fijivillage this morning that his aim is to get young people to help each other to express their voices to society.
Meanwhile Director British Council New Zealand and the Pacific, Ingrid Leary said that they see this as a cultural event.
The Valuing Voices project will be implemented over 30 months by the British Council and Save the Children Fiji, together with Dialogue Fiji and University of the South Pacific's Oceania Centre.
The launch will be held at the European Union Head of Delegation's residence at 5.30pm today.
