“Valentine’s Day is special and it’s not something that we should joke about and make fun of when people acknowledge their loved ones in their own special way.”
Those are the words of Marica Ravutu, the owner of Garden of Eden Florist at the CWM Hospital.
Ravutu says being a florist has taught her many life lessons especially to value and cherish the moments you have with your loved ones.
She says that Valentine’s Day is more than just surprising your loved ones with roses or chocolates but it’s a good time to renew your vows and reconcile with those that you have differences with.
Ravutu is encouraging the itaukei community to break the norm and get away from the thinking that Valentine’s Day is only for the western society.
Meanwhile for Wame Vesikula it’s a day where he visits his mother’s grave.
Wame sees this day as a day of cleaning, weeding and replacing of flowers at his mother’s grave in Suva.
Fijivillage also spoke to some people on the streets on how they would spend the rest of today.
