Suva based lawyer Aseri Vakaloloma and his client and businessman Benjamin Padarath have appeared in the Suva High Court today.
They were earlier found guilty for one count of forgery by the Suva Magistrates Court.
They were charged by FICAC with one count each of forgery in 2011.
They were convicted after being found guilty of forging the Articles of Association for BECP Engineering Construction Fiji Limited creating a false document namely page 27 of the article of association of the aid company by inserting the name, address and the signature of Voreqe Bainimarama as the Director of the company.
The forged document was found in the bedroom of the second accused Benjamin Padarath.
The offences occurred between October and December of 2009.
Aseri Vakaloloma has appealed his conviction.
FICAC has appealed both Padarath and Vakaloloma's sentence saying it is not sufficient given the seriousness of the matter.
Suva based lawyer, Aseri Vakaloloma were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and Suva businessman, Benjamin Padarath to 14 months imprisonment for forging the signature of Voreqe Bainimarama.
Their two sentences have been suspended for 2 years.
