The people of Vatulele have been invited to participate in the Fijian government's Pilot Worker Scheme for seasonal work in Australia and New Zealand.
The invitation was made by the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate when he visited the island along with other government officials.
Usamate says they want to recruit from Remote and Isolated Communities.
He says the reason for this is to ensure Fiji sends those who are already working on farms and those who have limited access to economic activity.
Usamate says three pilot workers from each village within a Tikina will be chosen to participate and form a team.
One of the 3 workers will be a non‑traveling reserve.
The Tikina will also choose a leader and a driver for each team.
The leader and driver would also be performing farm work like all other team members.
He stressed that those that would be chosen would need to pass medical assessment, fitness test and must have a clean police and immigration record.
An additional 11 workers left for Australia and New Zealand for overseas employment opportunities this week.
The first group of three 3 workers will be returning to Australia to be employed once again for Treeminders as seasonal workers for a period of six 6 months.
A group of eight 8 carpenters have also departed for New Zealand.
This is the second group of carpenters sent to assist in rebuilding Christchurch that was badly affected by an earthquake that struck in 2011.
