Upgrading works on the eight lane by 400 meters synthetic tracks at Churchill Park in Lautoka is expected to be completed by early next year.
Lautoka City Council CEO, Jone Nakauvadra says the primary purpose is to develop athletics within the Western division particularly in Lautoka.
Nakauvadra says most of the athletics trophies are now in the Western Division like the Secondary School Coca Cola Games trophy.
He says there is a lot of skills and talent in the west that needs to be tarnished and explored.
The upgrading works is worth $5 million.
