Attorney General and Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has said the upcoming budget will focus on promoting inclusivity and broad‑based growth.
He said this will allow the government to continue creating sustainable employment for ordinary Fijians in the aftermath of Cyclone Winston.
Sayed-Khaiyum has highlighted that they are prioritising funding for policies focussed on boosting our climate resilience and rebuilding from the cyclone.
Government ministries, departments and other agencies have begun submitting funding requests for the upcoming fiscal year this week at the 2016‑2017 National Budget Consultations.
Sayed-Khaiyum is encouraging members of the public to submit written submissions on their ideas and suggestions for the 2016‑2017 National Budget.
The Minister for Finance is scheduled to meet with key non‑government organisations and other stakeholders in the coming days.
The government fiscal year will now begin from August 1st and end on July 31st.
