Union elections for General Secretary post undeway

The election for the National Union of Hospitality, Catering and Tourism Industries General Secretary's post is currently underway.

The two candidates are Daniel Urai and Mereani Qoro.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says the postal polling has been completed while polling is underway at the various locations which will end tomorrow.

He adds the union submitted 2,900 names of members however upon verification by the Fijian Elections Office, there are 1,984 valid members of the Union.

Saneem says they will count the votes tomorrow night at the Hexagon hotel and the result is expected to be released tomorrow night or early Thursday morning.

Meanwhile Saneem says they are concerned as the Union has not submitted its annual returns to the Ministry of Labour for 2013 and 2014.

He adds the Ministry of Labour is looking into the matter as the Employment Relations Promulgation has a very specific requirement about the annual returns.
