The University of the South Pacific say that they take the USP Staff Union’s concerns very seriously and have considered each one of them accordingly.
USP confirms that a formal written response to the Staff Union will be submitted today.
The University is confident that majority of the issues raised in the petition have been dealt with fully.
USP has also invited the Staff Union to a meeting on Wednesday for further amicable and conclusive discussions.
The Staff Union of the University of the South Pacific protested at the University’s Laucala campus last Friday regarding various matters that affect the University staff that have not been resolved since 2015.
Staff Union Secretary Litiana Waqalevu revealed that the protest was in regards to 18 issues that are still with the USP management.
She says some of the issues include, pending staff appeals from 2013 to 2015 and contract letters that have not been sent out to the staff.
According to Waqalevu the Union has been raising these issues with the USP management since January 2016.
She says it has been 10 months and the USP management has done nothing about it.
Waqalevu says their next option is strike action.
