The United States of America is lifting sanctions on Fiji after democratic elections were held last month.
US Ambassador to Fiji, Frankie Reed said in recognition that a democratically elected government has taken office in Fiji, the United States is lifting restrictions on its financial assistance to the government of Fiji.
Reed said in light of these recent developments they have also lifted certain foreign policy based visa restrictions.
She said they are also exploring opportunities to resume engagement with Fiji’s military to include training and cooperation on issues of global concern.
Reed added they appreciate the contributions that Fiji makes to international peace and security through its commitments to peacekeeping operations, as well as the central role that Fiji plays in contributing to peace and prosperity of the Pacific region.
