The US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has sent his congratulations on Fiji’s successful elections to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and all Fijians.
Pompeo said they are encouraged by Fiji’s continued democratic progress and look forward to continuing the strong partnership with the Prime Minister and the Fijian people.
He says they are particularly encouraged by Fiji’s leadership role in the region and beyond.
Pompeo stresses that as a longtime contributor to global peacekeeping initiatives, Fiji plays a vital role in protecting the global rules based order.
The US Secretary of State says he looks forward to expanding cooperation between Fiji and the US on the basis of robust trade relationship and shared commitment to ensuring that the Indo-Pacific remains free and open, where sovereignty is respected, commerce flows unhindered and independent nations are masters of their own destinies.
