A networking reception was held last night at the U.S Embassy in Suva to get people from academia, the government, NGOs and business community to start working together to get more youth interested in the sciences.
Rebecca Archer‑Knepper who is the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S Embassy Suva says the reception was to see how everyone can collaborate to get youth more excited about STEAM or Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math to develop their future.
Archer‑Knepper says the evening was aimed at getting different people together to listen to their ideas about how to address this challenge and to just plant the idea of what kinds of creative things can be done to collaborate more.
She says after the reception she hopes people will come up with ideas or submit proposals on how to reach this goal.
She says having a basic understanding of the sciences is the way forward for youth as most of the jobs in the 21st century are based on sciences. She says there are jobs in computing, engineering, architecture, accounting, business entrepreneurship and understanding science and math will help youth reach their goals.
She says the main idea is to get youth excited about their future and give them the right tools to meet their potential.
