The United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund has donated 20,000 doses of Typhoid vaccine to help with the typhoid cases we have in Fiji.

Minister of Health Jone Usamate says the typhoid vaccination will effectively prevent and control ongoing or potential typhoid outbreak scenarios especially in cyclone devastated communities.

Usamate says the ministry registers approximately 250 cases of typhoid fever annually.

He adds that it is important for people to wash their hands after using the toilet, before eating and before food preparation to prevent typhoid.
