$106,844 worth of equipment for Maternity Wards has been handed over to the Health and Medical Services Ministry by the United Nations Population Fund.
United Nations Population Fund’s Director, Dr. Laurent Zessler said the equipment was initially procured for the Maternity Unit at the Makoi Health Centre however the birthing unit is yet to be opened.
Dr. Zessler highlights the equipment support is complimented with capacity development opportunities through rotation Specialists to Divisional Hospitals, Family Planning Training for nurses, mid-wife support, the provision of Family Planning commodities and support to another wellness centre soon to be completed in Lautoka.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Maciusela Tuicakau sid the health and well-being of mothers are to be kept as a priority in any health service delivery as they are very important in our lives, families, community and society.
Dr. Tuicakau added the construction of the new Makoi Maternity Unit started early this year and is expected to be complete and opened in the next six months if everything goes well as planned.
