The two‑way trade between Fiji and New Zealand in 2017 was over $992.2 million.
Minister for Trade and Tourism Premila Kumar says New Zealand has been one of Fiji’s top 10 export destinations over the past five years, with exports to New Zealand valued at $110 million on average.
She says New Zealand has been one of Fiji’s top five import markets over the years and in 2017, the highest number of imports was from New Zealand, valued at $858.1 million.
Kumar made these comments while speaking at the reception to mark the first anniversary of the opening of the Fiji Trade Commission in Auckland, New Zealand.
Kumar says the Fijian Government’s pro‑growth policies and the first year‑anniversary of the opening of the Fijian Trade Commission in Auckland is a testimony of their commitment to take their private sector engagement and people to people links to the next level.
The Minister also noted that more Kiwi’s continue to visit Fiji every year.
In 2018, Fiji received almost 198,718 New Zealanders.
This was an increase of 7.7%, the highest number recorded in a given year.
Meanwhile, Kumar also extended her deepest condolences to the families of the tragic events that unfolded in Christchurch last Friday. She says the Fijian Government strongly condemns this abhorrent act of terror against a peaceful community and reaffirms their shared beliefs in multiculturalism, tolerance, love and respect for one another irrespective of race, religion, gender and creed.
