Two schools from Lautoka currently lead 2015 Coca Cola Games medal tally

As we enter the last few hours of competition for Day 1 of the 2015 Coca Cola Games, the two schools from Lautoka, Natabua High and Jasper Williams High School still lead the 2015 Coca Cola Games medal tally.

Looking at the Fijivillage, Legend FM and FM96 Medal Tally, Natabua leads with 6 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze, QVS is now in second place with 3 gold and 3 silver, Marist is in third place with 3 gold and 4 bronze medals while Suva Grammar School is in fourth place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

In the girl’s division, Jasper is leading with 5 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze, Saint Joseph’s Secondary is in second place with 2 gold, Adi Cakobau is in third place with 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze while Lekutu Secondary, Koro High, LDS College and Vunisea Secondary are in fourth place with 1 gold each.

It will be an exciting finish on day 1 as we have 8 gold medals at stake in the boy’s division and 8 gold in the girl’s division tonight. 

These medals are up for grabs in the 400 metres and 100 metres finals.

The boys from Natabua have won 5 gold medals and broken three records so far.

Former Tavua College student, Waisale Dausoko won gold for Natabua and set a record of 7.20 metres in the Senior Boys Long Jump.  

Joe Vokiti has won gold in the Intermediate Boys High Jump. 

Paula Nasara of Natabua took gold with a record jump of 5.84 metres in the Sub Junior Long Jump event.

Semi Matalau of Natabua settled for silver. 

Form 3 student of Natabua High School Seveci Matanitobua won gold in the Junior Boys 1,500 meters event in a record-breaking run this morning.

He dedicated the gold medal win to his mother who travelled all the way from Lautoka to watch him run at the ANZ stadium today.

Matanitobua has set a new record of 4 minutes 21 seconds.

He broke Isikeli Waseaqali’s record of 4 minutes 24 seconds.

Shaneel Narayan of Xavier College took silver in the Junior Boys 1,500 metres event while Jacoro Ledua of Dreketi High settled for bronze.

There was an upset in the 1,500 metres Intermediate Boys final as Suva Grammar School’s Farasiko Mualevu had to settle for silver after Natabua’s Isikeli Waseaqali won the gold medal.

Waseaqali was at Bua College last year.

The bronze medal went to Ratu Kadavulevu School’s Vilisoni Vulaono.

Defending boy’s division champion, Marist Brothers High School have won 2 gold and 3 bronze so far.

Earlier today, Marist’s Mustafa Fall broke his own record in the Senior Boys Shot Put event.

Fall’s record throw is 16 metres. 

He set his previous record of 15.80 metres in 2013.

Fall has dedicated his win to his brothers.

Their second gold medal came from Kaliopasi Uluilakepa in the Junior Boys Shot Put event. 

Defending champions in the girl’s division, Jasper Williams High School currently has 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.

Sereseini Vesoka has taken two gold medals for Jasper so far - she won gold in the Senior Girls Triple Jump and Long Jump events.

Jasper’s third gold came from Atelaite Inoke in the Girls Junior High Jump.

Alesi Kunaura also took gold for Jasper in the Senior Girls High Jump.

Kelera Sing of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School has bagged two gold medals for her school in this year’s Coke Games.

Sing finished in first place in the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump and Long Jump events.

Sing said juggling her studies and training for her two field events was not easy but she not surprised that she won gold in both events.

Gospel High School sprinter, Younis Bese has broken her own coach, Makelesi Bulikiobo’s 18-year-old Coca Cola Games record in the 200 metres Senior Girl’s event.

Bese ran in a time of 24.98 seconds in the 200 metres heats in the last hour.

Bulikiobo’s record stood at 25.14 seconds.

The 200 metres finals will be held at 11.40am tomorrow.

A 19-year-old record has fallen in the Coke Games today as Ana Baleira of Koro High School had a record throw of 35.12 metres in the Intermediate Girls Discus.

She broke Grammar’s Seruwaia Tuvou’s record of 32.98 metres which was set in 1996.

Baleira said she changed her event from shot put to discus and all the hard work she put into her training has resulted in the win. 

She said the victory today is as sweet as honey.

Suva Grammar School’s lone male athlete in the Senior Boy’s Division, Inia Sili has not disappointed the Grammar fans as he won the gold medal again in the Senior Boy’s 1,500 metres final.

Sili said he was experiencing back aches but he is happy to win the gold medal again.

Viliame Dileqa of Wainimala Secondary settled for silver while Melesi Varakuka of RKS took the bronze medal.

Queen Victoria School’s Henry Spring has claimed the gold medal in the Sub Junior Shot Put after a record throw of 12.95 metres.

Semi Savubula took silver for QVS while Josefa Vucago of Xavier took bronze. 

Meanwhile, the first gold medal of the 2015 Coca Cola Games went to the Northern division as Vika Tuilomana of Lekutu Secondary School won gold in the 1,500 metres Open Girls Event.

Losala Turaga of Jasper Williams High School took the silver while Silivia Vusevuse of Kadavu Provincial Secondary grabbed the bronze title.

Lekutu Secondary School’s Vika Tuilomana told Fijivillage that when she got up this morning she said to herself that the first Coke Games gold medal will go to Lekutu in Bua.

Tuilomana who comes from a family of nine said she trains for 20 minutes every morning and evening.

The 4x400metres relay heats are currently underway.

The 100 metres heats start at 5.25pm today while the 100 metres finals start at about 7.49pm tonight.

The 400 metres finals are at 7.25 tonight.
