Two people who were rushed to the CWM Hospital after sustaining burns in a fire early yesterday morning are still admitted at the hospital.
The incident occurred at about 5.30am in Raiwai where the double storey building belonging to a 57-year-old retired civil servant was partly burnt.
The two victims, a 27-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy, who are related to the retired civil servant, were sleeping in separate rooms when the fire started in the child’s bedroom.
At the early stage of the investigation, it is believed the fire started from a mosquito coil.
National Fire Authority CEO John O’Connor said when his team arrived at the scene, the top floor was already engulfed in flames but they quickly put the fire out.
This prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring apartments.
The 27‑year‑old managed to rescue the 8‑year‑old however they both sustained burns.
