A 26-year-old man and a 35-year-old man have been sentenced to 13 years 8 months and 12 years 6 months imprisonment respectively for raping and sexually assaulting a New Zealand national on the 8th of July last year.
The 26-year-old man has been convicted with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault while the 35-year-old man has been convicted of two counts of rape.
The incident occurred after a heavy night of drinking at a beach in Taveuni where the two men with the victim and her husband who were recent arrivals at the island from New Zealand.
After consuming alcohol at a number of locations, the victim felt tired and went to sit in their car with the door open.
She had fallen asleep but when she woke up she found the 26-year-old man on top of her and raping her.
The 35-year-old man then raped the woman.
A non-parole period of 10 years has been set for the 26-year-old while the 35-year-old can apply for parole after serving 9 years in jail.
