Two men have each been sentenced to 17 months imprisonment for stealing milk and weet bix for Year 1 students from Saraswati Primary School in Nausori.
23-year-old Eremasi Koroi and 20-year-old Savenaca Lotua also stole two laptops, a hard drive and school text books on the 7th of May this year.
According to the summary of facts, upon investigation by Police, Koroi and Lotua were arrested and admitted to breaking into the school and stealing the items.
They also pleaded guilty to the offence in court.
As mitigation, Resident Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne considered that Koroi and Lotua were first offenders and were seeking forgiveness.
While delivering the sentence, Magistrate Somaratne said even though they are both young offenders, he does not think suspending this sentence is suitable in this case.
He said during the night they broke into two public schools and stole public property that were available for students.
