Two men convicted of raping a 25 year old woman in Labasa has been sentenced to 10 years, 10 months and 2 weeks imprisonment by the Labasa High Court Judge, Justice Achala Wengappuli.
The two aged 46 and 26 years, were each charged with two counts of rape and they pleaded not guilty.
The three assessors have found them guilty and Justice Wengappuli concurred with the opinion of the assessors.
During the trial the court heard that the woman was drinking with some men when she was sent to the nearby shop and when she returned she found that others had left while only two of these accused were there.
The court also heard that the village generator was switched off by then and sensing danger the victim hid under the house.
After a few minutes she ran along a track however the two men caught her and took her back to the house and raped her.
Both have been given a non-parole period of 8 years, 10 months and 2 weeks.
