Two Lands Department officers have been charged by Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption on corruption-related charges.
Peni Matasau and Jashnita Kumar appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates court yesterday charged with one count of Conspiracy to Defraud Obtaining a Gain and one count of General Dishonesty Obtaining a Gain.
Kumar is also charged with two counts of Fraudulent Falsification of Accounts.
She is alleged to have falsely receipted a crown land rent payment from an Ian William Smith.
She is then alleged to have altered the receipt in order to obtain a $300 gain with Matasau.
The two have been released on a $1000 bail bond each and have been ordered to surrender their travel documents and not to interfere with Prosecution witnesses.
The case has been adjourned to the 20th October.
