Two Fijian men in New Zealand burst into a burning house fearing people could be trapped inside.
According to stuff.co, Fire and Emergency New Zealand was alerted to the blaze at a King St, Waitara, home on Thursday night when a heater ignited a bed after it was left too close.
Neighbour, Saimone Sauliga, was woken up and alerted to the drama when his nephew Jack Costello, returned home to discover his neighbour crying on the street.
Sauliga, who is a diesel mechanic says his nephew was calling out to him that there was a fire and they needed help.
He adds they thought that the kids were inside and were trying to help the family.
Sauliga says he could see flames coming from inside the house, which was clogged with smoke, and called out to his wife to start filling up 20 litre containers with water so they could extinguish the flames as he leapt the two‑metre tall fence to his neighbour's property.
Sauliga, says they eventually found the room where the fire was burning and used the water containers to put it out before the fire fighters arrived.
The pair didn't consider themselves heroes and Sauliga adds he was just pleased the occupants had escaped safely from the house.
The fire was out by the time firefighters arrived but they remained at the scene for about an hour using a thermal imagining camera to make sure it was fully extinguished and had not spread to other areas of the house.
