Reports of Tuberculosis (TB) cases in Fiji have increased from 2012 with 218 cases and 2013 with 385 confirmed cases.
This was highlighted during the World TB Day today by the Minister of Health and Medical Services Jone Usamate.
Sharing his experience as a TB patient, 51-year-old Josua Naivalurua said he has been admitted for a month at the PJ Twomey Hospital and is recovering well.
Naivalurua, who is a soldier, said he was not aware that he had the TB symptoms in 2012 when he returned from Iraq until a month ago when his condition got worse that he ended up getting admitted for treatment.
Naivalurua is currently on medication at the PJ Twomey Hospital with 18 other TB patients.
He urged people to seek medical assistance if they are experiencing signs of TB.
Health Minister Jone usamate said TB is curable and preventable and the signs include cough that does not go away for more than two weeks, unexplained loss of weight, fever and night sweats.
