The Nadi Weather Office is calling on people to take necessary precautions as many parts of Fiji are expected to feel the indirect effects of a tropical cyclone which is expected to pass to the far west of Fiji later this week.
The tropical disturbance was located 950 kilometres west of Rotuma at this morning.
It is still near Tuvalu.
Weather Office Director Ravind Kumar says the weather system is anticipated to track southwards and gradually intensify from today.
Expect rain and thunderstorms in many parts of Fiji from today.
Kumar says at this stage, the system does not post a direct threat to Fiji but we will have associated rain and strong gusty winds.
He says people should remain prepared at all times and listen to the radio weather updates.
Continuous heavy rain can also result in flash flooding.
