A tropical depression was located at about 410 kilometres north west of Rotuma at about 1pm today.
The Nadi Weather Office says that the chance for the depression to turn into a tropical cyclone is now low.
The Weather Office says that the depression is moving at about 8 kilometres per hour and is expected to pass to the west of Rotuma in the next 12 to 36 hours.
They say on the current track the depression is expected to bring gale force winds with speeds upto 65 kilometres per hour with gusts upto 90 kilometres per hour. People in Rotuma can also expect heavy rain.
They say that the depression is expected to affect the northern division later tomorrow and it is anticipated that the depression may further weaken by then.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Office is advising those living on the Island of Rotuma to take extra precautionary measures.
They are also advising mariners to stay indoors and avoid travelling out to open seas.
