The trial of the 47‑year‑old taxi driver who allegedly stabbed his 42‑year‑old ex‑wife and a 43‑year‑old man outside a supermarket in Nakasi started in the Suva High Court today.
Rakesh Narayan is charged with One Count of Attempted Murder and One Count of Act with Intent to Cause Grievous Harm.
First prosecution witness, Shakindra Devi who is Narayan’s ex-wife told the court today that she was working in a restaurant in a Supermarket in Nakasi on May 16th last year when she received a phone call from her brother.
Devi says her brother called her at around 8.40pm and told her that her ex-husband Rakesh Narayan had come to their place and told him that he will kill his sister.
Devi says her brother had also told her not to come out of the restaurant.
However, Devi says she came out of the restaurant when she saw her current husband, Rakash Deo who had come to pick her.
Devi told the assessors that while she was about to enter the car to go home, her ex-husband Rakesh Narayan came from behind and pulled her before stabbing her head, neck and hand with a kitchen knife.
Devi says she can’t remember anything else as there was blood all over her.
She told the court that when she opened her eyes again, she was told that she was at the Intensive Care Unit at CWM hospital.
The trial continues before High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.
