The Haus of Khameleon, a movement that is led by young trans-women believes that Fiji is now taking positive steps towards transgender equality.

Creative Director of the Haus of Khameleon, Sulique Waqa says the offer made by the police commissioner to have a meeting with them is a step in the right direction.

Waqa says the meeting will be an opportunity to build and improve on their relationship with the police.

They will hope to bring the issue of trans-women’s access to justice at the meeting.

Waqa says it is important that police officers understand the problems that trans women face when reporting cases of violence.

Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qilihohad welcomed a meeting with key representatives from Fiji’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex community at the Speaker's debate last week.

Qiliho said the Police force is here to serve all Fijians irrespective of their race, gender or ethnicity.
