Traffic Officers have stepped up on drunk and drive operations and in the last 24 hours, four arrests were made in the Southern Division.
Chief Operations Officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu says according to past trends where weekend arrests would increase they are mindful of this occurring in the next 48 hours with major events happening and the increased movements within the divisions.
Police officers on patrol have noted the dangerous habits of pedestrians wearing dark clothing making them less visible to motorists, they have noted people sitting near busy roads and some have been found drunk staggering to find their way home.
Tudravu says as officers are out conducting awareness for drivers on the fatal five they have noticed that pedestrians have adopted a rather no care attitude with the way they behave on the roads adding they are hopeful it will change.
The road death toll currently stands at 59 compared to 60 for the same period last year.
