Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua

A traditional ceremony will still be held during the installation of the Roko Tui Bau, Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua on Bau Island tomorrow.

Turaga na Masau Ratu Kinijoji Toganivalu confirms that after the church service at Ratu Cakobau Church, the Roko Tui Bau will wear his traditional costume that has been prepared before the Yavusa Ratu will present him a whale’s tooth as a way of accepting their new chief.

Ratu Kinijoji also confirms that after this ceremony, they will then present another tabua and a bowl of kava to the Tui Kaba for witnessing the installation of the Roko Tui Bau.

He adds that they are just fulfilling the new Roko Tui Bau’s wish not to receive the kava due to his religious beliefs.

The installation will start at 10am tomorrow at Ratu Cakobau Church on Bau Island.

Around 2,000 people are expected to be present at the ceremony.
