Towns have been told to evacuate in Australia as rivers bloated by heavy rain threatened to burst their banks overnight.
Torrential rain lashed the state of Victoria late yesterday with people in Victoria's northeast including Myrtleford, Buckland and Wangaratta urged to flee as floodwaters continued to rise.
Victorians were warned that the worst of the forecast superstorm was yet to come, as heavier downpours and a heightened risk of flooding is expected today.
Heavy rainfall doused Melbourne throughout last night, while today presented the real danger day with forecasts of between 100 and 250 millimetres of rain in some parts of the state.
Rainfall was expected to ease later today.
