The timeshare industry has contributed significantly to the tourism industry and the Fijian economy for almost 20 years with more than $23 million spent by visitors every year.

These were the sentiments of Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Koya while officiating at the Australian Timeshare and Holiday Ownership Council Annual Conference.

He added that the industry has provided employment to thousands of Fijians across many fields, which in turn has given them the opportunity to develop and grow in their career.

Koya says timeshare resorts have high occupancy all year round and this greatly supports the tourism industry especially during its low season.

He added that Fiji’s tourism industry is diversifying its tourism products and building niche markets, such as sports and tourism.

Koya highlighted that this is in line with the vision to make Fijian Tourism a $2.2 billion industry by 2021.

He further stated that these are some of efforts the Fijian Government has undertaken to encourage more growth in Fiji’s tourism sector though there is still more that can be done to achieve and learn from experiences of the Timeshare niche to develop further.

Tourism earnings for 2017 stood at $1.9 billion.
