Tikina of Natewa women’s group raise over $10,000 during Natewa Day

The Tikina of Natewa women’s group was able to raise over $10,000 during the Natewa Day in Vanualevu.

Over 300 people from Natewa, Vusasivo, Buca, Vusa, Dawa, Nadavaci and Tukavesi were present at this fundraising festival with the aim to raise $5,000 from women of all of the villages in the Tikina of Natewa.

President of the Tikina Natewa Women’s Group Akosita Ravoka says that the money raised from the fundraising will enable the Women's Group to secure a land in Savusavu so they can build an accommodation that will assist market vendors and pregnant women who travel to and from Savusavu, to be accommodated as they have to travel a great distance to reach Savusavu Town.

While officiating at the event Minister for Women, Children and Poverty alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa acknowledged the dedication of the women’s groups in the Tikina for the contributions that they have made towards the development of their communities and their respective families.

She also assured the women’s groups that her Ministry will work closely with the women of the Tikina of Natewa to establish a viable income generating project for the members of the groups to further alleviate poverty by generating income that they can use for the benefit of their families.
