Three police officers escaped death following an incident where a digger brought down a power line during a routine stop along Princes Road yesterday.

Police Constable Jeremaia Balemaira, Constable Mosese Gasaudrokadroka and PC Aliposo Steven were pursuing a man that was driving in a dangerous manner and when they stopped the vehicle, the arm of a digger loaded on a truck allegedly brought down a nearby power line.

According to Police, the power line landed on the back of the neck of PC Balemaira followed by what he described as a shock that ran through his body causing him to lose consciousness.

The other two officers managed to jump away.

Police say investigations will focus on the negligent and reckless actions of the driver and whether he had complied with regulations when transporting heavy machinery.
