There is no pay increase for the Police Special Constables.
Minister for Defence and National Security, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola told the Parliament after Opposition MP, Ratu Sela Nanovo asked him to clarify if the Special Constables will get an increase in their pay.
Kubuabola says that the Special Constabulary was inherited from the British System of Policy and their pay rise coincides with an increase with salaries for civil servants.
The Minister revealed that a total of $352,626.06 overtime pay has been given to the Special Constables recently.
Kubuabola confirmed that there are 1,007 Special Constables, 65 Corporals, 24 Sergeants, 11 Inspectors and 2 Senior Inspectors in Fiji.
The Minister was then asked by SODELPA MP Semesa Karavaki to explain the pathway for the Special Constables to become regular police officers.
Kubuabola says that they are recruited at the divisional level where they have to go through training to prove themselves to become regular police officers.
