Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum says that there is a need for better auditing and accountability at the University of Fiji.
He made these comments after a student from their Saweni Campus asked Sayed‑Khaiyum if funding could be increased so that they can have better IT labs.
Sayed‑Khaiyum told the student that University of Fiji got a grant of close to $4.2 million in the 2018/2019 National Budget compared to close to $3.4 million last year.
The student claimed that the University told them that they did not get the grants.
Sayed‑Khaiyum says this is not true.
The student said that they have requested their IT labs be upgraded.
The Attorney General they need better accountability from the university as they give quarterly grants.
Sayed‑Khaiyum told the student that they are a privately owned university but they still get grants as the government recognizes the role the university plays.
