Other Christian denominations are making consistent visits to Methodist congregations and this is causing the movement of members.
Based on this, the President of the Methodist Church in Fiji Reverend Dr. Epineri Vakadewavosa says there is a need for Methodist Church leaders to improve on their service delivery.
He says that many Methodist members are leaving for smaller denominations and this is something that needs to be addressed urgently.
Vakadewavosa also highlighted that he is concerned with the handling of the church finances.
He says that not one, two or three members are to make decisions on using the church’s money as the money belongs to the church.
He adds that the office of the Methodist Church is working to improve the financial misfortune of the church which is an issue of the Methodist Church in the past.
Meanwhile Methodist Church leaders have unanimously agreed to a motion to include the learning of the language and the traditional Indian Culture in the Methodist Lay Training Centre curriculum.
This came about after the Lomaiviti Circuit raised a motion on the importance of including the Hindi Language so that pastors are well versed with the language when they are out in the field.
The Lomaiviti Circuit says that the Indo Fijian community has lived and served Fiji for a good number of years and has contributed a lot to Fiji’s growth.
They also say that it is fitting to include the language in the Lay School Curriculum as there has also been no significant growth in the Hindi division congregation.
The President of the Indo-Fijian Methodist Circuit Reverend Emmanuel Rueben thanked the Lomaiviti Circuit for the motion.
The Methodist Church continues at the Centenary Church in Suva today. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will speak at the conference at 11.45am today.
