The media needs to be objective and ensure that they hold people accountable for their actions and decisions.
Managing Director of Communications Fiji Limited William Parkinson made this point while speaking to a number of journalists and student journalists in a program to celebrate World Media Freedom Day at the Fiji National University today.
Parkinson said the important questions always need to be asked when the journalists are following up issues.
Parkinson said we need to remind all leaders filling all sorts of roles, about the importance of accountability.
He also said that consultation is important when bringing up new laws as this will allow the people of Fiji to have a say.
Parkinson said even if something good is brought in, there needs to be consultation and dialogue, before the changes are made.
Meanwhile Media Industry Development Authority Chairman, Ashwin Raj stressed that there is no censorship in the country.
Raj also said that journalists just have to follow the Media Code of Ethics and do their job in gathering the facts and informing the people of Fiji.
Raj was part of a panel discussion at FNU with the News Heads of media organizations in the country.
