Calls are being made to relook at school programs on road safety and whether they are effective.
This comes after Fiji Accident Compensation Commission CEO Parvez Akbar highlighted at the LTA Consultation for National Road Safety Campaign at Tanoa Plaza that the commission had made two payments for children who have lost their lives after running across the road.
He says the loss of a Fijian life on our roads is one loss too many and it should be unacceptable and to view a life in the form of statistics in unfortunate but that is what is being done today to address this issue.
Akbar says school and public awareness in terms of the obligation of pedestrians on our roads is also an important aspect of Road Safety.
He stressed that these programs need are funded and for accountability its effectiveness needs to be looked at as this can greatly help address accidents and fatalities on roads.
